I see nothing wrong with people that want to help others such as in Haiti, but I do see a problem if they would much rather put their effort into helping another (3rd world) country when there are things that must be done here.
There are neighborhoods in South St. Pete that could use a lot of work. Neighborhoods that are unsafe and rundown. I think every single person needs to spend time fixing themselves before they try to fix others.
Take pride in where you are, stop asking for hand outs or blaming your problems on other people. I agree that this does not speak of everybody, I know there are people in those communites that do care. It's the rest that we need to reach and bring to the light.
If you agree with this, prove it! Get out into the community and make things better, educate those around you, make the community safer for yourselves and for those just visiting. Have pride in the ground you walk on!
