It's absolutely disgusting that they will probably never catch the people who did this.

Police have caught one and I hope more will follow. Good work!

Chief Harmon has been on the scene making this a high priority case.

But I agree with you. Too many of these crimes are not punished. The neighborhood association has a simple message: please call to report crime and suspicious activity. If our residents called police like people in most neighborhoods street crime would stop. Street corner drug sales happen in full view of dozens of residents who complain about bad police service yet do nothing to help.

People are shocked when the victim is an innocent child. This was the lead story on all newscasts and on page 1 of the Times. There is an opening for us to recruit a few more crime watch volunteers and maybe even some church leaders. It only takes one resident to shut down a crack house if they keep calling whenever they see drug sales.

Every few years a horrible crime like this gets our attention. In the past interest dwindled in a few weeks and it was back to the normal state of disorder.

This time SPPD has just started CAPE II. (See the 3/30/09 post). I hope this will lead to a permanent transformation.

And this summer SevenX7 is planning two outreach events in Bartlett Park. If church leaders want to help us strengthen our neighborhood we will win.
