Dalí & Beyond Film

November – Arte 2007 / Marquez!
    This Week:

      Nov. 1 – Ruy Guerra's "Erendira"

"A tantalizing blend of black comedy, eroticism and mysticism adapted from a novel by Gabriel García Márquez. Erendira (Claudia Ohana) has a strange and wondrous vision; shortly afterward, her grandmother's house burns down. The witch-like grandmother, played brilliantly by Irene Papas, gets her revenge by forcing Erendira to become a prostitute. As the clients become increasingly prosperous (along with grandma) and endless, Erendira keeps her wits about her by experiencing even more bizarre visions. Veteran European character actor Michel Lonsdale is brilliant in his cameo as a hypocritical senator." — Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide.

(Ruy Guerra, France/Mexico/Germany, Spanish with English subtitles, 1983, 103 min.; rated R)

Nov. 15 – Ruy Guerra's "Fable of the Beautiful Pigeon Fancier"
Coming Up:
Dec. 13 – The Avengers episode - "Too Many Christmas Trees"

    Dec. 20 – Bob Clark's "Black Christmas"
The Film Series is presented every first and third Thursday of the month at 6:00 pm (unless noted).

Free with museum admission ($5 after 5:00 p.m. every Thursday).
